Re: Belton, TX - 3 Oct 2009
The dude with the military pole kits is from Maryland. He bid on and won several lots a year or so ago and did not realize that he was bidding on pallets and not bags. Big difference between 24 bags and 24 pallets.... Yeah, there's people who actually modify the pole kits as portable antenna masts

Re: ASTRO Ham Band Repeaters (NATIONWIDE LIST)
If you're up in the Barrie/Collingwood area then you'll have coverage on VA3IMB on 147.2850Mhz (156.7hz/NAC 293) but that's generally from Newmarket and above with a mobile. With the number of guys in the Toronto area with P25 gear, I'm surprised nobody has bothered yet. There is a P25 UHF repeater...

To be fair, TRBO is also a 100% proprietary mode. TETRA would be fun to play with, but from what I understand it's very infrastructure-intensive and doesn't have a non-trunked repeater mode.. you get Network and DMO (direct) and that's it. P25 and D-Suck can at least be repeated with a couple of mo...

I've played around with an IC-V82 with the D-STAR board installed and I wasn't that impressed with the audio quality of AMBE over IMBE. Maybe its Icom's own AMBE implementation, but it sounds way more like RealAudio 1.0 on a 28.8k modem. I know IMBE (at least in P25) can sound like that sometimes b...

As probably some you guys are aware, Kenwood and Icom have came out with a new joint standard for digital radio based upon the AMBE-II vocoder from DVSI called NXDN.
