Update for anyone who cares. Found a Saber on Batlabs and after a bit of haggling and some WTF moments I got it for $350. Comes with a charger and a NOS Moto battery. Seems like a good deal, and including shipping to my shitty part of the world it was $411. Good on ya. I assume it came with recent ...

Well, I survived. Fun times shakin' hands with you guys and meeting new folks, and kudos to the guys who scored on the Decibel sexiness. I only walked out with a 2-bay VHF dipole array, a high-power flat duplexer, and *gasp* a UHF Visar. So where's the pictures, guys? I know Scott got a few. :baby: ...

Fuck Panik. Fuck Panik. Fuck Panik. Fuck Panik. Oh, and the alignment procedure Shaun posted is absolutely correct. Couple of minor revisions, though: 1.) When adjusting TX power and both sets of deviation settings, start with the highest test frequency and work your way down. On the deviation bala...

OK. So a nice clean RF environment is important here. What is your experience with yours? Does it TX a lot on garbage or is it OK? I haven't actually put one up. <_< We have an issue around here with broadband sweeping noise across the entire 430-450 range from what we're pretty sure is military ra...

Why do hammies feel the need to label their repeaters? Putting the callsign, input/output freqencies, and the pl on the front of the repeater is just gay. Nobody cares! http://metro-uhf.org/repeaters/hoodroad/crop/repeater-with-PA.html I thought that was a requirement at the larger shared sites, so...

Yep, it's called "the kNACk." I haven't personally played with it, so YMMV.w4wtf wrote: I saw a software NAC decoder somewhere, perhaps that could be used to open squelch with a valid NAC if it is fast enough.

It works without any problems! We have such a ham repeater here (RX Motorola GM900 / TX Motorola GM950). It works in analog, in P25 and D-Star. Of course a true digital repeater would be better, but for the price of this setup it performs quite well. What do you do to keep out QRM/QRN? Just wonderi...

Re: First Non-ICOM Experimental D-Stars transceiver
D-STAR, P25, or something else? If at all possible, I was wanting to take at least one radio to listen in with when I go in early 2009.mr.syntrx wrote:Japanese cops have been running digital nationwide for a very long time now.

I agree with the contact channels: On-site, BW1 (146.495 67.0/$293) Off-site, W5MAY's machine 442.400+ 110.9 I'll go ahead and add Batlabs Green to that: MURS/GREEN 151.8800 143 IMBE DCSQ (primary) analog w/dpl 143 Secondary) Now that I can actually work a keyloader, I'll be IMBE/OFB on there. PM m...

if you ask me its a waste of time, not enough peeps doing it to make it worth while. wait till its actually a popular thing Yeah, but if everyone thought that way, no one would ever pick it up. Re: First Non-ICOM Experimental D-Stars transceiver
Why??? ICOM is charging $500+ for D-Star, whats the difference?? Not a damn thing, they have to pay DVSI for the AMBE codec for D-Star just like they are paying for the IMBE codec for P25. Since both are open protocols, how much would it cost to put both codecs on the same board and have a radio th...

Anything else I should know, or is it all in that url? :p The howto of buying used Motorola Astro gear is pretty well contained in there. Model 1 Astro Saber, with a firmware minimum of HOST 05.xx..xx and DSP 06.xx.xx and a flashcode beginning with an odd number (eg. 100001-000000-1 or 500008-000000-7). 1. This is the extremely over-simplified version. You'd do well to do some reading over at the Batlabs Astro forum . 2. When you go s...

HamCom 2007 - Plano, TX
June 8-9
Plano Centre
2000 East Spring Creek Parkway
http://www.hamcom.org
Figured I'd go ahead and get the ball rolling since it's put-in-request-for-vacation-time season. Thankfully it's not the same weekend as A-Kon for a change.
We gonna do dinner on Friday night again?
