Re: It's already March.. no HamCom thread yet? (June 8-9)

I made sure I got both days off. I look forward to spending money foolishily at the swap meet. If anyone sees a 900 MHz HT, please let me know. I need Skywarn refresher too.

So are we using Jon's (NORTEL) repeater, besides the usual simplex freq?

Re: Obligatory HamCom Plano thread (10-11 JUN)

So do we have a consensus on the repeater? If no one else chimes in, I'll declare a dictatorship and say we use Richardson's 442.800 110.9 for dinner coordination/regular BS outside of simplex range. I'll reserve a table for 10 at Bonedaddy's for 8pm. If anyone I have not mentioned in my previous po...

Re: Obligatory HamCom Plano thread (10-11 JUN)

Well I tested the above-mentioned Carrollton and Cedar Hill machines with an HT from inside my car at Plano Center. I couldn't bring either of them up with 2 watts. However, the Richardson machine on 442.800 110.9 worked well.

Re: Obligatory HamCom Plano thread (10-11 JUN)

The repeater should be accessible by an HT from within Plano Center. 442.400 is in Cedar Hill but I was surprised to see that I could key it on the HT in my apartment. 'Course, Cedar Hill is premium real estate for repeaters. Perhaps I'll make a run out to Plano Center this week and test some repeat...

Re: Obligatory HamCom Plano thread (10-11 JUN)

8 pm works for me. I can make the reservation but I'll need a head count. So far we have myself, Victor Xray, Otaku, Mong x2, kv5e x 2, rdwilson x2 & kd5wyu. That's 10 so far, unless I miscounted.

Re: Obligatory HamCom Plano thread (10-11 JUN)

927.5125 156.7 ? I'm not familiar with any such repeater. However, the best-coverage machine on 900 is now on top of the green building on 927.0625 DPL 432. Incredible coverage but sadly, almost never used. Nevertheless, we certainly do need to agree on a 2m or 70cm repeater for when we're not with...

Re: HAM-COM 2009 - June 12 & 13 - Plano, TX

Thanks to Rick and Jon for the nachos! A good time as always. By the way, Rick, if you need a mini UHF female, I've got some spares for 58 and 8x. Tomorrow, I build a ground plane for a new 900 omni antenna. If that doesn't get me into the TI machine from inside the apartment, I'll be building a yag...

Re: HAM-COM 2009 - June 12 & 13 - Plano, TX

Thanks, Jon. I was rather shocked by the turnout. Most all of them stuck around too. Lots of good stuff to be had. Got 100' of Wireman "Super 8" coax (similar to LMR-400), a package of silver-plated PL-259s, and I actually found some mini-UHF connectors (finally!), some QSO logging softwar...

I'll be there. Who knows, I might even get some of the Hamsexy business cards printed up that we discussed last year. :baby: If any of my friends come, we'll be on 462.575, 69.3 PL, NAC 293, with an as-yet undetermined DES-XL key. Or if we have enough P25-capable VHF radios to go around by then, we...

HAM-COM 2009 - June 12 & 13 - Plano, TX

HAM-COM is now 2 months away. Who's coming? I'll be doing my "Buying & Selling Ham Radio Equipment on eBay" on Saturday. Who knows, maybe someone will show up. If anyone has a projector I can borrow to plug into my laptop, I'd be forever grateful. I'm going to try and get that Friday o...

Re: Oak Creek, WI Fest - July 6

Hmmm.... a hamfest on 4th of July weekend.

About as smart as scheduling Ham-Com on Father's Day weekend.

What can I say? All ham clubs I've come into contact with have their meetings on weekday (work) nights. I guess it fits the ham tradition of picking the worst times for EVERYTHING. :soap:
