Re: FRIENDS DON't LET FRIENDS BUY YAESU

I have an FT8900R. http://forums.hamsexy.com/viewtopic.php?p=156974#p156974 Also an FT-50R which is 10 years old this year. Hasn't missed a beat. I dare say there's exceptions to every rule but I havnt found a reason to be quite so 'strong minded' about Yaesu yet... I love the term Necroposting! Bu...

Re: Yaesu ft-8800 dual band mobile

I've had an 8800 in my truck for the past ~9 months. The only problem I've had with it is the 440 side takes intermod in like a mexican whore when I drive through downtown Houston. The 144 side is nice and quiet though, and that's what I use the most, so I can't bitch too much. When I was researchi...

Re:

my buddy has one of those, he needs a new mic because of that stupid "mount to the head" thing.. then again, im not a big fan of the telephone connectors for mics. other than that, seems to be a solid rig Need to agree with the phone-jack thing. Mine's broken (clip broke) and wedged into ...

I don't have any digital equipment, so I wont be in a hurry to rx it. By the same token it'll be a little while before Fire are on it which is my primary concern... Meanwhile i'm just keeping my ear to the ground on it. if/when I can afford to get some gear capable of receiving it I may look again. ...

Yeah, Tait are pretty well regarded here. Was very sad to note the passing of Sir Angus Tait, ZL3NL, recently: http://www.blakjak.net/node/825 but as for the APCO 25 stuff, it is of particular interest to me as the New Zealand Fire Service use the same radio network (managed by NZ Police), and i'm a...

Appco P25 Demo'd

Hey guys At an AREC training day recently one of the guys (Regional Manager for Wellington region AREC who also runs his own RF Specialist outfit) demo'd the P25 technology that New Zealand Police are soon to be deploying. Pretty neat stuff. Radios with IPs... never thought i'd see the day... :P SMS...

I actually always liked the FT-530.

A mate of mine - blind - had one. The tones meant he knew what buttons he was pushing...

I'm in New Zealand - we're PPPoA driven here. The router is a Speedtouch 510 which has had a 'firmware hax' applied to make it a full Speedtouch Pro internally. (Theres no hardware difference, its pure firmware). The Speedtouch Pro is actually one of the better DSL Routers available for our market, ...

Should clarify. ISP's issue a single address to the Router. The router NAT's - I use 192.168 address space to access it internally. Thus per the Echolink website I have pinholes for 5200/tcp and 5198+5199/udp pointing at the ip of my laptop internally... I did also try enabling dmz-mode - thus all t...

Echolink over NAT (Alcatel Router) = stuffed

I finally registered for Echolink. However my Alcatel Speedtouch Pro ADSL modem wont talk Echolink. All pinholes etc are loaded correctly - my D-Link DSL500 works fine with the equivalent config. The Alcatel was recently purchased as a replacement for the D-Link because the D-Link crashes periodical...

My Yaesu FT8900R is great.
My FT50 is 'Ok'.
No problems with Y aesu.

The older Kenwood mobiles (TM-731/2/3) were pretty good, dont know about their current stuff.

Icom HF gear seems pretty good, I looked seriously at a 706 but ran out of $$
