If you guys use IMBE in the 420-430 range, you're in like Flynt because 403-433 Astro Spectras are cheap and plentiful on the used market thanks to US Government surplusing. The standard warnings for asking about firmware revisions, VOCON size, and flashcode apply. When they were really plentiful t...

How much for a Spectra?

I'm just trying to figure out how much it will cost me to be Spectra sexy. My requirements: R split (ie UHF 403-470) doesn't need to be silly power out, circa 50W is fine Not sure which head I'd need, I don't need it to be fancy just the basics :) Flash as long as its IMBE and has soft-ID I'd be hap...

Back on topic.

Does transmit deviation matter for P25? I just thought, if I'm using 2.5kHz deviation and my mate is using 5kHz, does it matter? (apart from bandwidth use??)

Okay, now for the real-world answer: I have personally seen an Astro Spectra attempt to decode two simultaneous P25 conventional transmissions with identical NACs. The end result was.. bizarre. You could tell two people were talking, and pick out parts of both transmissions, but the overall effect ...

Hetrodynes... does it happen with...

IMBE? Say for instance I'm talking to my buddy on FM, and some idiot tries to "key me out", all my mate will hear is a hetrodyne. What happens if: someone keys over me talking on IMBE, with FM? (assuming my mate is listening non-mixed mode) someone keys over me with another IMBE transmissi...

I didn't have an isolation transformer kicking around. Either way works I guess. That pop is evil. I wonder if there's a distinct reason Motorola designed the PA so it gets shut off when not in use? I could try jumpering it on...I just wonder if it would add "hiss" to the speaker on a 24/...

In order for ASTRO/CAI to sound good, all radios must have current host/dsp with AGC enabled. Even if listening with a 5K--if everyone else is running Sabers with DSP6, it will sound like ass. Ass is ass, no matter how you look at it. Can't make chicken soup out of chicken shit. :baby: :wacker: Thr...

Eek.

I'm going to take a look at that repeater builder site and look into making one... just to play around with, but over here its VERY hard to put a repeater up on the ham bands (red tape).

Hmm. Will _any_ two radios work? I have two hammy transceivers here (FT-8800). They have a discriminated audio out at the 9pin din at the back of the radios... They also do crossband repeat, but I doubt if I fed imbe into the UHF side, repeated it onto VHF, received it on the other 8800 and crossban...

IMBE repeater on the cheap.

I've heard it's possible with two mobile type radios hooked together.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of a URL or something..? Just trying to get an idea on how much it would cost, and the technicalities of it.

Advice I was given (and it's true) is make sure your flash starts with an ODD number...

Once you have your flash, Radioreference has a flashcode decoder.

Have a quick read through the first page of my "Help a newbie" thread.
