Route 66 on the Air, Sept 8th 2007 to 16th Sept 2007

Not so much a ham fest but an on the air event, Route 66 On the Air 2007 will start next weekend, 8th Sept 2007, and run through 16th Sept 2007. I'll be operating special event station W6M from Riverton, KS. at the Eilser Brother's General Store and anybody in the area who would wish to show up is i...

I know AMBE is backwards compatible with IMBE Got a cite on this? I thought they were incompatible No, they are quite compatible in the sense that an AMBE codec can encode and decode IMBE data. Now an IMBE codec cannot handle AMBE data. How do I know? I (or rather my employer) *AM* an AMBE licensee...

Do the standard receive filters support 6.25KHz spacing? No, most radios have the 12.5kHz IF, as if you don't, you distort the hell out of a C4FM waveform. Does anyone know what the shaping filter used for C4FM is? It's a raised cosine filter (NOT a root-raised as they *should* have used for minimu...

Didn't go with CQPSK? All of the Moto P25 gear supports it... I know of at least one system that uses it for their outlier IRs. ??? By "didn't go with CQPSK" I meant "Didn't adopt CQPSK for the spectral efficiencies mandated." Yes, they use a form of QPSK for simulcast systems, ...

I'd rather see P25 Phase II use OFDM rather than the current FM nonsense. You could get 30kbps without much trouble, high spectrum efficiency, and it'd be as robust as hell. Yes, and it would require class AB amplifiers for the finals, would piss off about 50% of the PA input as heat and reduce bat...

The key fill physical layer isn't RS-232, but a synchronously clocked protocol with one common data line, driven by open collector outputs on both ends. The logical layer is either a subset of APCO-25 OTAR, or a proprietary protocol developed by Motorola - so unless you have the TIA/EIA specs for th...

Bah. I had the opportunity to buy a 1900 - took the 8921 instead. The buffering when using the spec-an/TG sucks on the 1600s, 1900s, and even the 2975s. It's way too long. The 8921 shows changes near-instantaneously, IFR notsomuch. I cannot argue with you there, but that's why I like the COM-120B -...

Don't just limit yourself to a 1200S - I've heard of fleaBay having COM-120B's, 1600's, and 294x's for prices that break my heart. Yeah, but why would you want any of that junque, when you could have an 8921 instead? :baby: You'd let Cowthief take your anal virginity for a 1600 and you know it. As ...

I have been considering selling my spectrum analyzer for a service monitor... but it would kill me to give up a 22ghz hp spectrum analyzer :ve4uo: Ouch. What a choice. However, you could even do the simple alignment with a spec-an if it has the ability to demodulate the signal or tell you the devia...

power and warp are something even the TIM could figure out. Yeah, If only I could afford an IFR 1200S Don't just limit yourself to a 1200S - I've heard of fleaBay having COM-120B's, 1600's, and 294x's for prices that break my heart. Any of those would do for a simple alignment. Now, of course, if y...

Re: New non-P25 Icom digital portable

Looks pretty interesting. http://www.icomamerica.com/products/land_mobile/f3061_f4061/ 6.25KHz digital with an expansion board. AMBE? Possibly, but you can also pack a standard P25 channel into 6.25kHz using QPSK modulation - the only downside is you have to use linear amps, not class-C amps as you...
