Its 14% over here, and 5$ admin if sent through national postal services, or 25/30$ for private carriers. Suck it up. Or commit fraud, your call. (chose fraud) We occasionally get hit for GST, but it's 10%, with an $80 admin fee for UPS (the dirty cunts!), and none for the post office. Customs won'...

Unless they changed the law. They had all kinds of bullshit bills in progress that did and didn't get passed like allowing crypto up to 40 bits for ecommerce and whatnot, but I've stopped keeping track of the pathetic situation there.

Nope. You can only run crypto for communications with a permit, which for all intents and purposes can't be obtained.

Why do hammies feel the need to label their repeaters? Putting the callsign, input/output freqencies, and the pl on the front of the repeater is just gay. Re: First Non-ICOM Experimental D-Stars transceiver

Japanese cops have been running digital nationwide for a very long time now. D-STAR, P25, or something else? If at all possible, I was wanting to take at least one radio to listen in with when I go in early 2009. Some funky CVSD system on specially made radios, IIRC. I'm trying to find the site whe...

Re: First Non-ICOM Experimental D-Stars transceiver

Why??? ICOM is charging $500+ for D-Star, whats the difference?? Not a damn thing, they have to pay DVSI for the AMBE codec for D-Star just like they are paying for the IMBE codec for P25. Since both are open protocols, how much would it cost to put both codecs on the same board and have a radio th...

Speaking of D-Star, what's with the bullshit design of Icom's 23cm repeaters? The vocoder is largely irrelevant to whether the repeater will repeat it, unless it actually contains vocoding capability. The modulation, frame formats, FEC etc are what you need to worry about, and between P25 CAI, these are incompatible. Sometimes you can get close enough for it to not matter, e...

Best price I've seen on their P25 one is only a couple hundred bucks less than an XTS 2500, not including software, cables etc.

Given a choice, I'd spend that extra few hundred for the XTS.
