The County Sheriff here wants to move to the MARCS system. Hmm. Give up lowband simplex for 800 trunking. Given the terrain in the area (hilly), it'd be better to stay with lowband simplex, but what do I know. Yeah in your area it does make sense, but here is flat. The problem is OEMA and all of th...

Webdoc, wanna help a fellow/neighboring EOC operator out when/if you get your hands on any such gear? I may not be a neighbor... but don't forget your homies down in Texas. :baby: heheh I'll do my best. For example just at the EOC, if we were to do a full rollout to the MARCS system, there would be...

I have a really dumb question. I might be able to get some moto gear cheap in the next few months as many of the N.W. Ohio area counties are talking going 100% to the 700-800 Mhz MARCS system. So much of the current radio systems/gear will be out of use. Will the digital capable radios also work wit...

I just picked up a VX-6R the other day, primarily for the extended receive. As previously mentioned, it's almost the same cost as the scanners made by the hammie companies. The connector is hidden by a rubber gasket and I haven't had a look under it, it didn't want to just pop right off. FWIW I hav...

hehehe, the Fulton Co K8BXQ club had a hamfest at the county fairgrounds a few years ago, they had signs up all over the place. Some lady drove up and paid the fee to get in, and came back to the gate about 15-20 min later wanting her money back, she didn;t see any ham anywhere just a bunch of old r...

Missing from the photos are: a guy with a lowband military surplus radio along with a huge whip on his back (6 meters?), a creepy guy with signs on his body shilling used radios to passerbys in the connector between th...

the ony thing I have heard negative about the new dual band alinco mobile radio is from a friend of mine locally, he has ran Alinco rigs for years. He said the new dual band will not let you scan both banks (bands) at the same time, you can either scan 2m or 70cm but can not scan both. That is what ...

Tom, a friend of mine has a DX-70T, as well as a Kenwood TS-50, He loves the DX-70T for his mobile rig. I have to say it is a nice rig, although I have more experiance with the TS-50. used it on field day 2 years ago. One HF rig I would love to get is the kenwood 440S/AT, have used it during field d...

Re: Satellite Uplinking
Ok fellahs, i have seen while cruising the boards that you can link your laptop through or via XM satellite. So heres my question 1. What interfaces if any do i need 2. Is there specific software i need? The only time I have seen this is the Mobile Threat Net system we have here at the Henry County...

this is not one of the larger hamfests, but the club members are very friendly, it will be held on the wooded lot where they have field day every year. and a couple of club camping meets each year.

which is better for repeater interconnection
we are looking into setting up either an echolink or IRLP node. In fact I have already built the machine and have Redhat Linux installed to setup IRLP, but we (at the EMA/EOC) are still debating which would work better. We might end up doing both with IRLP directly connected and echolink with a remo...
