The first Yaerola?

Post by smokeybehr »

There's been a couple of Yaesu/Vertex threads as of late, and I took a look at the Vertex site and found something that looked a little familiar. The VXD-720 looks an AWFUL lot like an XPR-6550. You be the judge...

If you look at the specs, they seem to be identical, right down to the number, save the channel count. The only thing missing from the Vertex version is the GPS, and the display is a different board, because of the different icons across the top.

First "Yaerola" was the PM1200

Motorola logo

Vertex radio

Motorola has some neat new shit coming in 4Q

XPR5550 Mobile, color display, bluetooth integrated
Some new cell phone size portable with a color touch screen
XPR7550 portable (wiscomm posted pics on batlabs
APX's out the wazoo
I'd hit it so hard you'd have to be to King of England to pull me out

Saw these at IWCE earlier in the year. I actually like the vertex version better. They run the same exact software as the Mototrbo's. The main feature they lack is support for IP Site Connect and trunking I believe. (Though, I don't know how they limit the IP Site connect part since it's not subscriber based...)

They do have that nice rugged metal housing that Motorola's typically lack.

The only thing you miss out on as far as I can tell with not officially having IPSC in the subscriber is Roaming, where Motorola took Voting Scan, gave it a new name and pretended it was new. If you don't use it anyway, it's no big deal.

If you're going to drop $700 on a radio, it's kinda nice if it comes with something to protect your investment :baby:
