New open digital PMR standard

Post by mr.syntrx »

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

From http://www.diis.org/
The ETSI DIIS Ad Hoc Group has been suspended. At the last ERM meeting in Sophia Antipolis, the DIIS work item was cancelled. A new work item was generated to form a new Ad-Hoc group with the task of developing a low cost, low complexity digital mobile radio standard. The timetable for the completion of the Standard is just twelve months. The name for this new standard is DIGITAL MOBILE RADIO - DMR

A new MOU group to support the commercial and branding activities for this new standard will be formed shortly.

An SRD for suitable spectrum in the 450-470MHz band is being prepared. The UK Radio Agency has indicated that they will promote this new standard as the UK preferred candidate for low cost digital PMR.
