Ok... Hooked.

Well, had my first major QSO on P25 Thursday... While driving through Barrie, ON, used the VE3XF repeater to have a 20 minute chat with VE3XF himself and a fellow amateur (sorry forget your call dude) but it was great.

Loved every second, audio quality was superb.

yeah, go digital or go home

Funny thing. I was at the HRO in Woodbridge VA yesterday. I asked the guys there point blank "Sell many dtar units" He said there was almost no interest in it.

It's a damn shame.

Glad to hear it works good for you too.

I really liked that thing. It had some awesome sensitivity. It made all the difference in countering the crappy antenna mounting locations in a jeep.

Yep. P25 is the $hit. After I made my first QSO with Seth at Timonium, I'm hooked.

Crystal clear audio. The best I've heard in ham radio ever.

Seth remind me to send you a QSL card... :baby:

I have to admit that I've not gotten interested in digital amateur voice.

Mostly, I guess, because there is not much digital around, even here; because of the competing implementations; and because i'm a cheap guy.

I think it's funny as hell that there's so little digital here in silicon valley.

Covers pretty much all of Central Ontario. It's located just north of Barrie.

NAC is 293/CTCSS is 156.7hz.

Callsign is actually VA3IMB but I haven't had a chance to get to the site to change it yet.

I wish there was a IMBE machine around here.

But I don't see it happening anytime soon. There isn't an Echolink or IRLP node for 50 miles. We still have repeaters running CSQ. qrzmoderator

I want a P25 machine in the DC area...

I have everything needed to do it except a P25 capable machine. Just need one to swap in and take the place of the kluged together piece of shit already up and working.

I'm in a position to fund a P25 repeater here; problem is, I don't "know" the people who control the building locations and towersites. I F&*%ing hate goddamn ham cliqueists. And what really blows ass is the guys with the badass sites put the worst godawful hamcrap repeaters on them. qrzmoderator

Oh well. I'm looking into buying some property next year, and if no one wants to help, I'll put it on a 60 ft. tower in my backyard. It won't have great coverage, but hey, it's something.
And the sign says you got to have a membership card to get inside.

There are several hams around here that I have talked to that would also like to have a P25 machine or two set up. One of them has a network of about 4-5 linked UHF machines that he would like to convert to P25 and set them up for mixed mode use.

Problem...Funding and Equipment.....Anybody have a source for qunatars and wireline cards??

Need the wireline card to interface an external controller if so desired.
