Question abt a 450 MHZ split AS and XTS3K

Post by jje64 »

Can a a 450 to 520 MHz Astro Saber and/or XTS3K be programmed into the amateur band directly w/o any hex editing? Obviously, the 403 to 470 MHz , and I want to be sure before I spend my money.

Thanks

Considering the price difference between low and high split, I'd go for a low split radio, unless you really need frequencies above 480MHz or so.

1. No.
2. Even if you get the programming done, a high-split radio won't lock reliably below about 443MHz. The sensitivity will also fall off sharply.

Not without hex editing, no. No shift-key in Astro RSS/CPS.

I have a S-split Astro Saber, and it kicks ass all the way down to 440. It's not IMBE-capable though, so I can't vouch for that.

You can program out of band and it usually works. The one draw back is that the radio may not function in IMBE mode outside the rated bandsplit.

Pfft, a R-split radio will do that with ease. So will a range 2 UHF Astro Spectra.

Where I live, CIMA runs in the 488MHz range. Try getting 440 IMBE and that out of a radio.

If you have Astros and Jedis, wtf do you need Warises for? :baby:

It's nice to have a Waris to make you appreciate just how superior your XTS/Astro Saber radios are :D

Thanks for all the input. I will take all the info into account with decision process.

Basically, the R split radio will do for my needs. BUT, I travel to a "T Band" area on occasion and would need to have something that would work in the 480 MHz and 503 MHz ranges.

My low split AS3 will receive up there (AFP), but it's a bit deaf, and won't lock very far above that.

Already tried on two different R-split 3000s. FAIL 001.

After Houston goes 700 Astro25, there'll be plenty of S-split 3500s on the surplus market though.
