DSTAR versus analog -- an audio capture comparison

Post by n3wrx »

Check out this audio capture.

What do you guys think? DSTAR ftw? Or is analog overall more intelligible when near the noise floor?

DStar sounds more robotic, but you can def. hear better.

I still like Astro. :baby:

That's a nice comparison. I've never actually heard digital over the air and I don't have any equipment capable of any of the modes. That's what happens when you live in the styx. Bob and maybe another handful of hams are using digital modes and they only use the 30 machine down the valley and I'm on the wrong side of the valley to hear it.

I remember hearing what was probably Bob a few years ago with the MDC squeak on his moto and I remember thinking wtf? He sounds like he's on one of the PS repeaters =P I am enlightened now...hehe
N3JFW: Next on hamsexy busters, kc8ryw and ve3xls will show up if you truely can make a meat missle using salami and gun powder.

It sounds a lot like DSP7 on my Saber tbh.

The analogue/FM test was fully readable, but very noisy and hard to hear. Digital has the edge there definitely.

ASTOR FTW though. I would say that though I'm a snob.
