Dirty Ham Equipment

Post by Wardriver »

Things I have found in the past in or on stink fest gear.

1- Dead Cock Roach in a old Swan 6 meter rig

2- Buggers on a VFO knob

3- Musty manuals

4- 11 meter crystal taped to the top inside cover

5- Old Playboy bunny card from a deck (used to hold a wheat lamp in place)

6- Nicotine (acts as a good preservative by the way)

Certainly nothing that exotic.

But used gear i've purchased is usually covered in some :ham: goo that takes a good scrubbing to remove.

Smokers are the worst with that brown nicotine film.

1) Dead meeces inside an old console radio
2) Silver class ring inside a National HRO-60
3) Enough roaches inside a Heathkit SOB102 that I took it to the car wash and douched it good
4) A chicken bone inside the afore-mentioned SOB-102 (the hammy hambone apparently liked KFC while fixing his rig)
5) The worst was what I DIDN'T find inside a SP-600 - scored it for $10 and was mighty happy. Didn't work. Long story short someone had carefully removed the bigassed 8-
section tuning capacitor and buttoned it all back up. THAT is like a day long job. Needless to say it got sold at the next fester (at least I owned up to what the trouble was)
