Don't know about the DVDs, but yeah, no WEP/WPA (on any of the three channels they can legally use. Rest of Europe gets 14 channels for 11b), no secure VPN, no encrypted Terminal Services sessions etc.motorola_otaku wrote:I guess they don't have DVDs, Blu-Rays, or WEP/WPA on their wifi, then.mr.syntrx wrote:Only in France (no crypto at all for anyone there, but who care about that shithole.)

Sorry guys, I need to rant... I'll keep it as swear free as possible.
Paid the seller on 20th of June. I got a USPS tracking number same day, automagically generated by paypal. It stayed as "electronicly notified" for a while - I thought...ok this can happen, I've seen it stay like that even until the thing is delivered... 8 days later on the 29th it suddenly updates and tells me the parcel has left the US-of-A. WOOHOO! I think.
Here's some chronology:
Electronic Shipping Info Received, June 20, 2007
Enroute, June 28, 2007, 3:54 pm, MELVILLE, NY 11747
International Dispatch, June 29, 2007, 8:00 am, KENNEDY AMC
Enroute, June 29, 2007, 8:00 am, JAMAICA, NY 11499
Ok - so either USPS is very slow, or the dude didn't post it for 8 days? What say you?
Moving on. Item arrives in the UK 4 days later... hits customs like a truck hitting those anti-terror concrete blocks.. I'd assume it would get flagged up and hit with customs charges and TAX, so I'm not really fussed... it came through fine:
03-07-2007 17:29 International Hub AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGES
03-07-2007 17:30 International Hub AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGING
04-07-2007 07:07 International Hub RELEASED WITH CHARGES
Ok - now it takes a day or two to get to the Manchester depot for the parcel service in this country - any brits reading know of Parcel Force, commonly known as Parcel FARCE. They pay the customs charges on your behalf, and add a fee on top of that. Fair enough... they then hold onto your parcel until you pay... fair enough! But, they send you a letter saying how much you owe, and how to pay. I didn't want to wait two days for them to mail me this letter, so I called up the depot and asked if I could pay before that... the dude said yes, so I did...
$100+ of charges and tax.. eek. Not bad I guess, the total I paid for this saber is around $500 now, inc. everything.
I paid around at around 11:35am, the tracking page updated at 12:53 to say:
05-07-2007 12:53 Manchester Piccadilly Depot Awaiting payment of charges
Ookay, I assumed it just hadn't updated properly... I actually started to call them up and double check.... I decided not to........
Ok, its a brand new day, I should have my Saber by now, right??? Wrong! I paid just a **** hair too late for my parcel to be loaded up for the night shift to be delivered this morning
The bloody radio is sat in some frigging depot because some lazy oananist couldn't be bothered to load it up. I now have to wait until Monday before I'm IMBE sexy. I'm truly pissed off, but! I'm also phylosphical... (sp?)
I haven't got my programming lead yet, so I wouldn't be legally allowed to use the radio anyway...

You should just drive into Manchester and pick it up; your not that far away, take the white "police interceptor" nissan Almera.

Its 14% over here, and 5$ admin if sent through national postal services, or 25/30$ for private carriers.Napalm wrote:Bastard!mr.syntrx wrote:I pay no Customs duty on goods from the USA, thanks to the FTA.

I won't admit to anything here, but my last two scanners I imported didn't attract any tax or duty.
I just didn't want to risk $400's worth of gear going into the sweaty hands of some postal worker... and never being seen again, and no way of getting my money back.
Parcel marked as gift / no value = no insurance

We occasionally get hit for GST, but it's 10%, with an $80 admin fee for UPS (the dirty cunts!), and none for the post office.rosie wrote:Its 14% over here, and 5$ admin if sent through national postal services, or 25/30$ for private carriers.

Customs won't bother unless the value is $400 for a private courier, or $1000 by post though, so if I'm going to buy that much stuff, I have the parcels split up.

Hmm, there's hope then. I did sort of ask the seller if he'd mark it as low value, but he said something about the insurance and he couldn't mark it down?n3jfw wrote:Napalm wrote: Parcel marked as gift / no value = no insurance

Yeah what is it with you Americans drinking tea COLD ffs?
I knew someone who lived in Virginia (or was it West Virginia?) who would drink iced tea constantly...
Ice tea isn't that bad. Its no cup of Earl Gray, but they even have an iced earl gray now, I saw it advertised on the TV.

What's the world coming to.
To be honest I've never tried ice tea... erm... do you have milk and sugar or what? Because tea with no milk and/or sugar (NOT in the case of Earl Grey) is just.. disgusting.
