Belton, TX - 3 Oct 2009

Post by motorola_otaku »

I'd like to go since I haven't been since March '07 and the guys who camp out under the water tower at Plano are RVing up. Anyone from D/FW thinking about venturing south?

I'm thinking about it..... will go if my kids' Saturday activities are squared away.

Bump the post a couple days before, I'll let you know for sure. I'll probably carpool with Crazy Larry, I'm sure he's going.

Now that my daughter lives in Round Rock, I drive through Belton all the time. In other words, yeah, if it's on a weekend, I'll check it out.

OK, I'm in. I'm loading up the truck tonight and hitting the road at 4:30am. Look for my table indoors.

I'll be monitoring BW1 (146.495 67.0/$293)

I'm leaving out this evening after work and staying in Austin tonight, and will be there bright 'n' early in the morning.

Are you riding solo, Jon, or is Larry tagging along too?

Also, the Houston GMRS crew are bringing their portable 70cm repeater. 441.525/no tone.

I grabbed a few pics.. there was actually quite a bit of hamsexuality to behold but I was just too tired to care.

Image
This guy parked in front of me. Way to back that losing horse, bro!

Image
And on the other side of me.. THE GODDAMN ROVER YEAAAAH.

Image
I don't know what it was about this 'fest in particular, but there were like 3 different tailgate guys selling military surplus tent pole kits. My suspicion is that the other two guys bought from this guy then attempted to turn around and re-sell them.

For Mong. :mjban:

Obligatory storm-wacker.

Overall, there was a pretty decent turnout but not too many good deals to be had. I walked out with a pair of rackmount UHF notch duplexers from a tailgater and a pair of E.F. Johnson XTS batteries from VX.

I guess I need to add more antennas to the truck as I haven't made made the hit list yet.

Picked up a bank charger for the Genesis series and a 900 ham converted Spectra. 1.2 gig in next. If only the 1.2 gig Spectras really did exist.

The dude with the military pole kits is from Maryland. He bid on and won several lots a year or so ago and did not realize that he was bidding on pallets and not bags. Big difference between 24 bags and 24 pallets....

Yeah, there's people who actually modify the pole kits as portable antenna masts

I saw him also, but this time I went stealth. The only radio I had was the TH-F6 stashed in a pocket with only the speaker mic visible.

The blue 3500 with the tied down 12 GI whip passenger rear was mine.

He also has several light stands with crank up poles he has modified and trying to sell as a portable mast set-up.
