Anyone going?
Or has anyone been in recent years?
I've never been before but I might feel like traveling.

I listened to their repeater last year when I was visiting family down the road in Anderson. Sounded pretty lulzy. I can only imagine what a stinkfest in that part of the world would look like.
And the sign says you got to have a membership card to get inside.

I'm tempted to go, as an excuse to get over to that area (since I stopped doing Route 66 on the Air I've lost that excuse).
But I'd round it out by doing some other Route 66 attractions (4 women on the route, the inn in Baxter Springs, then a run through Tulsa and OKC before heading home).

There might be a few other local people going down, we'll see. I'm still trying to justify the cost of fuel (maybe lodging) since I don't usually go to hamfests to buy. It might be fun to take the risk to see if it would make a good regional 'fest and maybe poach some vendors for my local hamfest next year.

Well, were I coming down from Des Moines, I'd at least plan on a little time in KC, and plan on doing some of the more interesting attractions around Joplin, and make a weekend of it - head over to Springfield to Bass Pro, eat at Lamberts, maybe take a couple of drives around the Branson area.
If I go, I'm planning on hitting Big Brutus, Four Women on the Route, Cafe on the Route, and swinging down through Tulsa and OKC on my way back, and making a three day weekend out of it.

Yeah... I was just in KC last weekend (where most of my immediate family lives) and dropped way too much money on that trip, so the trip will probably be non-stop to Joplin. Time has been pretty scarce around these parts, so it will probably be a 'fest-only trip if I go.Wowbagger wrote:Well, were I coming down from Des Moines, I'd at least plan on a little time in KC, and plan on doing some of the more interesting attractions around Joplin, and make a weekend of it - head over to Springfield to Bass Pro, eat at Lamberts, maybe take a couple of drives around the Branson area.

I may have to give it a miss. The Cosmosphere is having it's 50th that weekend - a one-in-a-lifetime event vs. a yearly event. Hmmm. Let me think.
