Been kicking around the idea of a FREE (No admission), tail gate type mini-hamfest here in Northern Illinois and would like some input from the Hamsexy Crew.
I've located a possible spot with ample parking for 200-300 and it is free and easily accessible from main highways/tollways. I'd like to see ham equipment and parts only. Those who show up with CB crap, beer can collections, dolls, knitting, porno videos and other crap will be asked to leave. No commercial dealers, no food (picnic okay), no unwashed, no exposed butt cracks, no whackers, and probably some other no stuff I haven't thought of yet. There's a nice swampy area to put the computer sellers in.
There are a couple pavillions where hammies can sit around and BS all day. Thinking about a Saturday in July or August.
Think the big attraction would be that there is no admission fee which the only negative would be no door prizes. I suppose we could give away a free subscription to 73 magazine to the "Hamsexiest" ham.
Any input would be appreciated.

I organized one of those last year...and am doing so again this year. List it with the ARRL and they will send you a box of books to give away. Also take a look at the Scott, N3FJP's AClog website, he'll donate a $39 software package to hamfests that expect 100 or more hams to show up.

Why didn't I hear about that fest in Wisconsin last year ? Have a friend in Whitewater and we try to hit a lot of fests. Missed Baraboo last year. Nice, small one with friendly people.
Think the fest I'd like to run should have the ham radio version of the "Soup Nazi" standing at the gate ... "You're a whacker, NO hamfest for you !".

9th of September, this year, County fairgrounds, Galesville WI. I'm doing it all over again.
