It's only 3 weeks away?!? The day has approached faster than I anticipated. So much to do with so little time...
*Girlish squeal*
Who's in? I'm about 90% on getting a table with electric service. Though it pains me to do so, I may be reducing the collection of radios and other accumulated crap and junk. I'll likely head up on Friday to stake my claim and camp for the night. Sunday is up in the air.

Looking forward to it, probably be there Saturday only, but since it's usually the only time I do a hamfest anyway I figured I should go at least one day. Besides I have to go and try to deal with someone that ripped me off last year for batteries, I won't post the name but suffice it to say it is a dealer you see at a number of the regional fests that has batteries in it's name. Ask me on the air and I'll steer you away from them if they don't do the right thing. I'll be listening (like a good little nerd with 50 HT's) on the mighty 29, NE IL, KA9VZD repeater at 145.290 [107.2]. See you at the fest, I'll have camera in hand for those priceless shots. It's always a hamsexy time.
...seven three, seven threes, seventy three, seventy threes...

I still have 3 or 4 rolls of film from various trips last year that need to be developed, not sure which one those pictures are on but I will do that soon for sure. I will also, like a good little nerd, bring 2 HT's so I can monitor the Hamsexy frequency (146.495 pl 67.0, no MDC for me Ray ya big geek) and I will also monitor 29. I'm thinking about wearing the lovely blaze-orange callsign hat that I bought last year in my effort to emulate the hamsexiest of hamsexy. Not sure though, maybe incognito is better. See ya there... only one week away now.Brett -
Ever get them pics' from last year back man?
I'll probably have another HT on me for t3h 29er.

I'm sure we'll find each other somewhere along the way. I do hope that that dealer makes good on the screw job they did last year, hopefully I can talk to someone in charge instead of the rude and stupid woman I talked to on the phone after last year's show. We'll see...
I'll be there with my woman as well, last year she bought a radio and I didn't, imagine that.
See everyone there. seven three, seven threes, seventy threes, seventy three... very good and fine business all around...

Wellll, that was disappointing..
I mean, I had a good time and all but the vendor and spectator turnout was terrible. I managed to keep it to about $40 including the ticket and delicious enchiladas for lunch (shout out to Tacos El Norte). I never did find my AS1 housing or SVA powered speaker. I didn't even see the ubiquitous cheap sunglasses vendor! ...And I needed sunglasses! *sobs openly*
Nevertheless, it was nice to see both familiar and new faces. Sadly, I'd have to say the high point was the strange little troll of a man with whom I almost had to rumble with after I egged him on during a tense Uniden vs Radio Shack scanner debate. I dropped anchor after it was apparent he was serious and literally spitting mad. Gawd, scannerheads can be such pinheads..no offense to his borderline disability.
Second highest point was the short converation I had with the black announcer guy. He's funny and not at all the buttoned down, cursing-free guy that measured voice over the PA suggests.
The partially obscured HS/Skyporn shirt got some appreciated comments, too!
Anyway, this will remain an annual mark on my calendar as long as I live in the area and they hold it. I just hope turnout was low because of the threat of rain or half-shirts or terrorists or something.

I'd say the hamfest wasn't too bad. Could have been better but for the most part it was worth the 3 hour drive each way to get there.
I didn't end up buying as much as I planned on though.
1 kw dry dummy load
2 desk mics
2 connectors for said mics. (4 pin connectors for ft-101)
1 SMA to N cable
I was keeping my eyes open for some motorola stuff but of course I didn't have enough left over to buy anything worth while...

Hmm, I bought, uhhh, let's see, NOTHING, much of it was crap, though there were some things there and I do think on average it was a better selection than the 15 year old computers and porn that I saw last year.
Then on top of it I had to make a scene just to get the guy from Batteries America to make good on the crap he screwed me on at the last hamfest. Oh well, at least I can give him credit for doing the right thing, though he was a complete jag off about it and I don't think I'll ever recommend them to anyone.
For the most part it was cool, good to meet some people I haven't before, and my girlfriend was one of the first winners in the raffle, though she's not a ham the announcer dude gave her a DVD. Can't bitch about that, it was free. I think that the Chicago FM Club does a nice job, and as I already said I do think it was better than last year.
FINE, GOOD, SUPER, EXTRA FINE BUSINESS ALL AROUND, HI FREAKIN' HI.
(Who is posting pictures and where?)
