And computer expo?
Surprised the ham part still gets top billing. They had one here recently that was billed as a computer expo, and then somewhere in the body of the ad it mentioned "some ham stuff too".

Re: Yaesu ft-8800 dual band mobile
The 8800 does a excellent job at crossbanding - only reason I got one a few years ago :mjban:
I'm 99% that's why I got one for $20, it was used to crossband a little to much and burnt up :anus:
If you're going to crossband with more than a 20% duty cycle, strap another fan on the heatsink. I ...

I'll rap on my head a few times (knock on wood), but they are all over 2 years old now and still going strong.
I do also have a few other radios that are no longer made anymore. Namely 3 X HTX-202 and one HTX-404 :)

Maybe the lesbos and the hamfest can find a place together for Labor Day? :baby:
Naw, most of the people attending hamfests are not tolerant of others <cough> no-coders <cough> :bnypancake:
YL seems to override No-Code.
Till the women won't pay the old men trying to hit on them any attention ...

Re: Shelby NC 2008 cancelled
Thats happening everywhere though, I'm sure.
Budgets are cut and they expect everyone to take less for more cost.
I think a lot of hamfests will be going away in the next few years because of the costs alone.

Re: d-chat for astro
Yeah they have chat servers that are part of BBS software. There is one around here somewhere too.
You can send pictures over packet, but unless they are small, its going to take quite a while to relay them at 1200bps. Maybe in the olden days it would work, but the average digital camera pumps out ...

I do that already. Its called packet radio.
1200 BPS FTW!
Too bad you're not sending pictures with that :baby:
I've never actually used packet, should learn it someday as some of the ARES types still actually use it for stuff. Can it be configured in a real time chat window?

Re: d-chat for astro
No, its old and text only.
Which makes it great :)
I still shudder sometimes when I think about how bad IRC networks are now. I remember the amount of crud people would try to send you 5 years ago. When I only had a 200k DSL connection.
Sitting on this cable connection I have now, I still wouldn ...

Nobody. Till everyone who paid thousands prove it works for data and voice, and the government or Cell companies get wind of it.captlpol wrote:Who uses 10GHz anyway? Radar and who else?
