Mike you are exactly right.
Any "Digital" encoding or modification of our signal, unless generally accepted by the community and unless there is either equipment available or a generalized specification, is technically "Obscuring the meaning of the message" and is a no no.

Looks like Yaesu has released something quite cool... the FTM-10R...
for me it's important because it's RUGGED, and waterproof (the head) and for me doing off road and Jeep, I need something that can take the elements a bit...

Well, had my first major QSO on P25 Thursday... While driving through Barrie, ON, used the VE3XF repeater to have a 20 minute chat with VE3XF himself and a fellow amateur (sorry forget your call dude) but it was great.
