iButtons are damn near impossible to take apart and keep working. The CIA/NSA has only managed it a few times.
Why take them apart when the security holes are so big you can drive a mack truck through them? ASK means nothing.

Haven't used it at all, haven't been able to read the codeplug yet - looks like it has an empty one - all it does is emit a long tone (no error msg) after a short period of time.

I doubt I'll bother with trunking while I own it ...

While I could just sit down and do it for them, maybe the safest way is to just sit with them and verbally guide them through it so that they do it themselves - they do everything, using all of their own ...

In another 5 years or so I can see ASK's being a major obstacle for us M nerds, once these new radios start hitting ebay or government surplus, we arnt going to be able to manipulate the programming in these radios at, like the APX radios for example that will only program with ASK's, legacy system ...

If you have [legal] possession of a radio (XTS series) programmed to a given P25 trunked system, is it possible to retrieve the system key for that trunked system from that radio (assuming you have software)?

I might go. It was the typical hamfest ratio of 99% crapola - Mark (kc2kxc) had his Motorola table, and that was about the only thing that was worth looking at - not that I'm a Moto snob by any means - I just remember a lot of it being broken Atari stuff, FRS gear, and your usual 20+ -year-old yard ...

Excellent. I am maxtrac and ht1250 at the moment, no digi-capability. Course, if there's some good shizzle there, I may leave the 'fest with the capability.

I'm most interested in 33cm gear or maybe a UHF maxtrac. Power supplies, stuff like that.

Looks like they're adding a 220 machine up closer to your neck of the woods - at least that is a nice quiet band. Linked to KQ2H, though Alex and Sherman haven't worked out exactly how yet.

My father follows the same camp (he loves his Kenwood's) but when I got my ticket he gave me an FT-8000R for my car which I must say has been pretty reliable. My only beef is the button madness they use for an interface.

Hopefully I can pick up a tri-band Kenwood at Dayton this year with a remote ...
