So all in all it ended up not being too bad of a 'fest. I made my usual score on Decibel antennas, plus some Motorola OEM programming cables and some other random crap.

Re: Belton, TX - 01 October
I guess we got in late and missed the party because the only thing I saw in the parking lot tonight was a bunch of geriatrics standing around shooting the shit. There was, however, a pretty epic fat guy in a pretty epic porcupine-mobile around the corner at the gas station that made me wish I had a ...

FINE I'LL HAVE FUN WITHOUT YOU GUYS.
I've heard the Friday night parking lot gathering is a bit rowdy.. well, as rowdy as a bunch of beer-fueled geriatric can get, anyway.

Anyone from Dallas making the trip down? I'll be in the area Friday evening, probably bored out of my mind and looking for something to do.

Re: Yeasu P25 Portable??
C4FM by itself does not P25 make. Gotta have IMBE and the P25 CAI in there somewhere.
What makes even less sense to me is, if it is in fact a P25 radio then why premiere it at the Tokyo Ham Expo and not Dayton? There is zero market for P25 in Japan.

Re: P25 Phase 2
Right now the only Phase 2 solution on the table is Motorola's X2 TDMA system. It's essentially the same thing as Astro25 but with 2:1 TDMA capability. The control channel is Phase 1 and the vocoder is still IMBE. Talkgroups within the system can be programmed to use FDMA, or certain RIDs can be fla...

Re: Dayton vs. Plano
It is very hot in Plano. Dayton gets hot too, but nowhere near as hot as Plano. I have never been rained on in Plano to the best of my recollection, but it is not outside the realm of possibility at all. There is no comparison between Plano and Dayton in terms of size and turnout. Plano is a decent-...

Re: p25, trbo, or dstar. what to do..?
P25 Astro Sabers go for sub-$125 on Batboard most of the time. When SCFR was blowing out model 2 ex-DOE VHF radios I got 2 for that price. Be patient and watch the usual venues and you can get on P25 very affordably. My big beef with D-STAR is not the protocol itself, but the fact that the mobiles c...

How short? I have a Multiplier 1100mah NiCad (can't remember what the model number). It's not the super-short battery like the LiIons. No, that will work. I have two of them but they're both so dead that even sitting in the SVA the radio won't turn on.. but it's a moot point since I can't get the :...

927.5125 156.7 ? I'm not familiar with any such repeater. No no no, those are the simplex frequencies I will have linked together from my truck on-site. Re: Low latency IP Audio streaming for remote base?
I saw an ad for these guys in CQ yesterday but don't know a thing about them: http://www.glentekcorp.com/ Their solution to IP latency is to use a POTS line for audio back to the operator with the IP side handling radio control. I don't guess the remote base site will be close enough to use point-po...

Hell, I think it sounds kinda neat. I don't really see any difference between what he's doing and what we do with P25 - except him and his buddies on the West Coast have put together an IP-linked digital voice system, something I'm not aware of any of the P25 repeater operators doing yet. Well since this came back, 900 mhz can't be used just south of Albuquerque, NM (I think it's 50 miles or so) due to White sands missile range.
