Well, had my first major QSO on P25 Thursday... While driving through Barrie, ON, used the VE3XF repeater to have a 20 minute chat with VE3XF himself and a fellow amateur (sorry forget your call dude) but it was great.
Funny thing. I was at the HRO in Woodbridge VA yesterday. I asked the guys there point blank "Sell many dtar units" He said there was almost no interest in it.
I have everything needed to do it except a P25 capable machine. Just need one to swap in and take the place of the kluged together piece of shit already up and working.
I'm in a position to fund a P25 repeater here; problem is, I don't "know" the people who control the building locations and towersites. I F&*%ing hate goddamn ham cliqueists. And what really blows ass is the guys with the badass sites put the worst godawful hamcrap repeaters on them. qrzmoderator
Oh well. I'm looking into buying some property next year, and if no one wants to help, I'll put it on a 60 ft. tower in my backyard. It won't have great coverage, but hey, it's something.
And the sign says you got to have a membership card to get inside.
There are several hams around here that I have talked to that would also like to have a P25 machine or two set up. One of them has a network of about 4-5 linked UHF machines that he would like to convert to P25 and set them up for mixed mode use.
Problem...Funding and Equipment.....Anybody have a source for qunatars and wireline cards??
Need the wireline card to interface an external controller if so desired.
