Rochester, NY?
Is there one this year? Usually it's the first weekend in June.

It's not worth going if your looking for motorola stuff -
There might be some agencies there that are selling off surplus narrow band stuff, but honestly, I wouldn't waste your time.
I know a couple of the people who would generally sell motorola stuff there, and one of them is in California....
Otherwise, it's an OK hamfest, but really, I wouldn't travel as far as most do for Dayton.

I'm probably going to make a quick pass in the early afternoon, not sure yet. I wanted to drop by the UNYREPCO meeting, just to see what that would be like. If I bring any kids, we'll end up walking the grounds for another hour or so arguing about why I won't give them $15 to buy more broken computer stuff.

Don't get me started on UNYREPCO and WYNSORC.JAYMZ wrote:If you swing through the UNYREPCO meeting wanna get the status of my coordination that has been in their hands for 6 months?
They have pretty much permanently scared my respect for people who coordinate repeaters in NY.
Waste of Fing time.
Put the crap up, and be like, well, I'm not waiting 9 months to put my repeater on the air... *CLICK*....

I already assessed traveling to rochester this weekend, and the cost of flying (and the fact that I already have a ticket to NYC - would just be too much to change, and would still require me to fly back to NYC, before boarding a plane to Rochester.)kb2vgi wrote:Yeah, I'm not really sure *why* I want to go. I suspect I'll get angry and leave in the first 10 minutes. I was hoping I could get Alex to go along, but he's "busy" ...
Oh well.

Well, that was a giant waste of 45 minutes, except for the sign at the main entrance, which made it worth the trip.
The parking lot has been closed or removed for some reason and everyone was being parked in a field beyond the fairgrounds.
It was raining pretty hard and things looked pretty muddy. I couldn't justify spending $9 or whatever it was to get in, have to walk in from cattle country in the rain and the mud and then not even be able to walk around the flea market, so I just turned around and left. I went to Home Depot instead, had to park way out at the far end of the lot, walked in in the rain, and didn't find what I was looking for, so I guess I'll call it even.
And how do we tell the world that this is the place for the hamfest? The only sign, anywhere that I saw, was an easel set up at the main entrance with the word "HAM" written in it, in electrical tape.

My friend Jim and I drove 3 and a half hours up to check it out. Very dissappointing. Rochester used to be a decent fest. This year was very empty. I am actually surprised no to see my car submitted as a whacker-mobile on here though. Besides the Astro Van with the red lightbar I had one of the more whack-tacular rides in the place.kb2vgi wrote:Well, that was a giant waste of 45 minutes,
