We did Sea-Pac. Had a blast. My first Hamvention and I'd do it again. Of course, beach location can't be beat (and the 'cuzzi in the window <wink>) Since we worked a booth I didn't get to see the flea market - but then what would I know about what I saw without my OM's explanation (same as other ham flea markets). Other vendor booths were standard. Attended the banquet and it was unexpectedly good all around too. Kudos to those who ran the show. Working as a vendor we got to know a lot of the people who volunteered. EVERYONE was nice and extremely helpful. Big thanks to those attendees who stopped by and said "hi!" Met old fans and new. (Hi Lloyd!)

Now my OM wants to do Dayton.... From what I've see here... <eek!> Who knows.....

Thought I'd share... no crowd pictures - I've seen enough of those! But the crowd was amazingly clean cut and better than what I've seen at swap-meets and pictures from Hamfests on HS.

Here's what my OM posted on his site last night... typical male....

Jeannie likes to tell the story of arriving in our beautiful ocean-front hotel room in Seaside, Oregon (Sea-Pac weekend). Did I marvel at the Jacuzzi in the window, the deck overlooking the beach, or the fireplace? Hardly. The box with my new RadioLabs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 7-element yagi had just arrived at the front desk. What's a geek to do? The response from show attendees all weekend was similarly enthusiastic... this is a very cool thing, and it plugs into the 200mW Senao card that I've retrofitted into the Linksys WET11 wireless Ethernet bridge. I imagine scanning the horizon from a kayak campsite, finding lots of hot spots named "Linksys" and "Default." <wicked grin>

Since ImageShack isn't working for me here - the picture showed the view from inside hotel room overlooking the beach with a fireplace on the wall and a jacuzzi in the window next to the deck. But HE's enamored with the small yagi!! <sheesh!>

When you need extreme mobility today...
When an emergency severs your ties to home base...
When you set off on an expedition or a world cruise...
When you decide the night before to operate Field Day...
When your life suddenly depends on what you can pack...
When you are moving to an RV, boat, or bicycle...
When there's no more AC power, no cellular phone, and no Internet...
When it's time to grab your stuff and GO!

Those are not the times to start cobbling together a laptop, some batteries, a bag of wall-warts, an ethernet cable, random dongles, and whatever radios you have lying around. When mobility is key (whether for adventure or survival) you need a grab-and-go toolset... not just camping gear and a Leatherman tool, but all the complex systems that have become essential to daily life.
